Description of Chancel Window
The stained glass window in the sanctuary was designed, constructed, and installed by the Rev. Marlin Heinicke, pastor of Beautiful Savior from its early beginnings in 1980 until he retired in 1988. The church building and window were dedicated on Sunday, September 22,1985.
- From the beginning of time God promised the Messiah, Visualized in the Bethel symbol "I will bless you..".
- The Star of Bethlehem announces the fulfillment, the coming of the promised Messiah.
- He came to die. Even though He is welcomed as 'king', He is condemned whipped, crowned, and made to carry the cross to His death.
- Death is not the end. He lives! He is risen! New life (symbolized in the lily and butterfly) is ours.
- The Holy Spirit (dove) brings us to faith through means of grace -the sacraments of Holy Baptism and the Lord's Supper.
- Another means of grace, the Word of God -the lamp and the open Bible.
- The Church, symbolized by the ship has a primary mission of casting the 'net’ of the Word out to men and women of the world so they too can be saved.
- The Word is not to stay with us, but, as the church, we now are to be 'fishers of men' and take the Gospel to the world.
Each of the panels carries through the theme of "promise".
Herman Steinman, retired welder and husband of charter member Helen Steinman, constructed the wire sculpture depicting Christ's saying: "I am the bread of life" (Ego sum panis vitae). This is a copy of a line drawing by an Australian artist.
EGO SUM PANIS VITAE -"I am the bread of life." Just as Christ fed the 5,000 with the loaves and fish, so He continues to feed His people today with His own body and blood in His Supper. This wire sculpture is based on an original mural in the refrectory of Luther Seminary, Adelaide, Australia, done by J.S. Ostoja - Kotkowski. The one in Beautiful Savior was done by Mr. Herman Steinman.
